Exposition hommage à Alain Decaux

Alain Decaux (1925-2016) was a member of France’s prestigious Académie française and a TV media personality. From 1998 to 2009, he was president of the College of Conservators of Chantilly and very devoted to helping restore Chantilly to its original splendor. This exhibition is taking place in the Galerie de Psyché.

Alain Decaux de l’Académie française 1925 – 2016

Alain Decaux was a member of the prestigious Académie française and a very well-known media figure. He was also a journalist, historian, screenwriter, and TV host. From 1999 to 2009, he was the president of the College of Curators of Chantilly by way of the Institut de France. He played a large part in helping to establish the foundation now in place dedicated to the preservation of Chantilly.

Peindre les courses – Stubbs, Géricault, Degas

For the very first time, Chantilly is organizing an exhibition spotlighting portrayals of horse races in paintings by the artists George Stubbs, Théodore Géricault, and Edgar Degas . The exhibition is featuring about 70 works of art spanning from the end of the eighteenth to the late nineteenth century in the Salle du Jeu de Paume.

Géricault au Musée Condé

In conjunction with the exhibition “Peindre les courses – Stubbs, Géricault, Degas” in the Salle du Jeu de Paume, the Gallery of Prints and Drawings is featuring part of the Duke d'Aumale's collection of stunning Géricault lithographs. Visitors will have the opportunity to view about forty prints and three original drawings by the artist. This exhibition is supported by Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly and Mr. and Mrs. Ludovic de Montille.

Le domaine de Chantilly face à la guerre (1914 – 1919)

Daily life at the Chateau de Chantilly during World War One is the focus of this exhibition. Previously unseen photos and documents from the archives are going to be on display for the first time revealing what it was like at Chantilly during this period, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armistice.

Primitifs de la photographie

October 30, 2018 - January 6, 2019

A presentation of photographs from the Duke d’Aumale’s remarkable collection dating from the second half of the nineteenth century. Among some of the subjects featured in the photographs are views of the Alps by the Braun brothers, news photos by Robert Howlett, and the beginnings of amateur and industrial photography. This exhibition is supported by Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly.

Le Grand Siècle des Ecrivains

October 30, 2018 - February 18, 2019

This exhibition is highlighting the masters of “classical” style who can be seen in the statues and portraits that adorn the Domaine de Chantilly and showcasing how some texts have become pillars of French literature while others have sunk into oblivion. It also commemorates the 350th anniversary of the first performance of Molière’s Tartuffe at Chantilly. Beautiful 17th century editions are going to be on display in the Reading Room of the Library.

Eugène Lami, peintre et décorateur de la famille d’Orléans

The Domaine de Chantilly is hosting the first exhibition ever dedicated to Eugène Lami (1800-1890), one of the significant artists and interior decorators of the July Monarchy period. Lami originally worked for Louis-Philippe, the Duke d'Aumale's father, as decorator and portraitist and was a talented watercolorist. This exhibition is supported by Friends of the Domaine de Chantilly and Mr. and Mrs. Ludovic de Montille.

La Joconde nue

To commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci's death, one of the most enigmatic drawings acquired by the Duke d'Aumale, The Nude Mona Lisa, is going to be the centerpiece of an unprecedented exhibition. The show will attempt to decode the secrets behind this mysterious drawings. Did Leonardo have a hand in its creation? Other Renaissance masterpieces on loan from other prestigious institutions will help to understand the portraiture of this seated female nude figure.

Clouet. Le miroir des Dames.

The musée Condé has an internationally unique collection of prints and drawings, including 366 portraits drawn by two of the major French Renaissance portraitists, Jean and François Clouet, and their workshops. Among these are delicate sheets dedicated to female figures featuring famous women of the Renaissance (such as Renée de France, Eleonore von Habsburg or Diane de Poitiers) and unidentified but equally beautiful models.
