Fable & Bibliophilia

During the 19th century, Henri d'Orléans, duke d'Aumale, assembled one of the most incredible collection of books and manuscripts housed today in the Château de Chantilly. Carmontelle (1717-1806)

Chantilly is home to the largest collection of portraits in watercolor by Louis Carrogis, known as Carmontelle, who depicted the illustrious guests at the Palais-Royal in Paris during the 18th century. For the first time, a selection from Chantilly’s incredible holding of 484 works will be exhibited in the Gallery of Prints and Drawings.
