SUMMARY:Aux origines du reportage de guerre. Roger Fenton et la guerre de Crimée
DESCRIPTION:Peintre formé à Paris dans l’atelier de Delaroche aux côtés des futurs photographes Gustave Le Gray\, Henri Le Secq et Charles Nègre\, Roger Fenton (1819-1869) se tourne vers la photographie vers 1850. Proche de la reine Victoria\, il reçoit en 1855 l’ordre d’aller en Crimée photographier le siège de Sébastopol où l’Angleterre\, la France et le Piémont soutiennent l’Empire ottoman contre la Russie. De mars à juin 1855\, Fenton fournit des images aseptisées d’un conflit sanglant\, très impopulaire en Europe. \nCes tirages\, acquis dès octobre-novembre 1855 par le duc d’Aumale alors exilé à Londres\, figurent parmi les premières photographies de sa collection et constituent un des tout premiers reportages de guerre aux origines de la photographie.
